Nina Maya transformed the former home of Bob Hawke into a bright, open-plan villa full of signature design pieces. Inspired by modern minimalist aesthetics, the design focuses on creating a serene and sophisticated environment that reflects the client’s lifestyle. Nina worked with architect Ian Traill to eliminate the labyrinthine layout that blocked natural light, raising ceilings and installing floor-to-ceiling glass to maximise the views of Sugarloaf Bay.

The Local Project
The interiors of Residence R feature a neutral colour palette, enhanced by the use of natural materials such as marble, wood, and stone. These elements add warmth and texture to the space, creating a welcoming and luxurious atmosphere. Custom-made furnishings and bespoke art pieces are carefully curated to complement the overall design, adding layers of visual interest and personality to each room.
“We wanted the view and the light to invade every room in the house. Building the floating staircase was a great engineering feat, but it was worth it – it’s really a surprising piece for the house.”
-Nina Maya
